The 'boot-bag' - Mazda MX5 RF Luggage Rack
We manufacture two unique Mazda MX5 RF luggage rack models.
Boot-bag is a waterproof luggage bag that straps to the boot lid of your MX5 RF without a rack. Cars have evolved in many ways over the past 50 years yet, the boot rack has remained unchanged. All it allows you to do is fix a bag to the your car by first fixing the rack to the car, in 2008 we thought 'why not just fix the bag to the boot ?' and boot-bag was born. We have sold over 25,000 since then.
In 2016 we introduced the innovative Revo-Rack luggage rack, this attaches using vacuum cup technology and the roof can be operated with the rack in place.
Boot-bag is made by us in Buckinghamshire, with care pride and attention to detail, we manufacture two models :
Boot-bag original 36x70x20cm 50 Litres £124.95 / 144.95€ / $161.95
Boot-bag vacation 40x90x20cm 75 Litres £154.95 / 174.95€ / $194.95
Here is a review from Glynn of his experience with a boot-bag vacation over 10,000 KM about 6000 miles in the Australian outback !
Greetings Liza,
At last I have overcome my religious difficulty (am a devout “LAZY” ), and wish to send you this short email.
Firstly my sincere thanks for your service in getting a boot bag to us, way over the other side of the world, so rapidly and efficiently. Must admit to being somewhat perplexed when a small ‘paper wallet’ sized parcel was left on my doorstep. It was the boot bag, which I immediately opened, and opened and opened to full size. Perfectly adequate to fit across the boot of my impending delivery of a beautiful Soul Red Crystal ND MX-5 RF LE …. a glorious little car.
Our new car with only a couple of hundred kilometres on the speedo, was loaded up ( and there’s very little room in the boot …. and absolutely NONE in the cabin) … a few bottles of water, some maps, fruit and some lollies …. ‘mother in law ‘ ( as the boot bag was affectionately named) firmly attached to the boot we roared off into the darkness of 5am…. and travelling due east, via the famous Nullarbor Plains to South Australia 2982 kilometres away. The first day we managed a little over 1400 kms, the second 850 and the balance on the third day. Running in darkness is fraught with danger and Australian Kangaroos are somewhat short of education and tend to watch the lights of vehicles, right until one smashes into them, with disastrous consequences.
During this time MiL sat quietly on the boot lid …. never moved around … never marked the boot lid paintwork (my big fear), endured the searing heat, the wind and the dust …. waved slightly at the continuous multitude of gigantic road - trains (3 trailer 100 ton monoliths that hurtle along up hill and down dale at the allowed 110kph.
The rally saw MiL placed in the hotel room so we could rush up and down marvellous MX5 type roads, in beautiful countryside.
Thereafter we meandered around for a month visiting many rural areas of South Australia, Victoria and a little of New South Wales to return home last week with now 10,000kms on the same speedo.
We did stop most every night, and were able just to click 6 buckles and take MiL into the motel room. In the morning we had an exacting regimen and were on the way within a few minutes, completely done us …. and not a screech/complaint from MiL -
Overall a terrific holiday, made better by our association with our product. Fantastic !!!!
The boot-bag Mazda MX5 RF Luggage Rack Alternative
The 'Revo-Rack' - Mazda MX5 RF Luggage Rack
Revo-Rack Black £349.95 / 369.95€ / $399
Revo-Rack PA £439.95 / 439.95€ / $475
If you are looking for a traditional luggage rack for the RF rather than the boot-bag we also manufacture the Revo-Rack. It's attached using vacuum cup technology ( very different to suction cups ). We have followed Mazda's ethos of adding lightness the frame is T5 aluminium tubing so its very light at 1.7kg. Putting a heavy stainless rack on the RF seemed to be missing the point to us. The frame is available in a black finish thats powder coated or a version thats hand polished then anodised for a deep shine (PA)
Revo-Rack has been tested to ISO/PAS 11154-:2006 Road vehicles -- Roof load carriers : The international standard for roof bars. There is no standard for luggage racks. The rack underwent testing designed for roof bars, speed tests, load tests, and emergency braking tests. It passed all these tests. We believe it is the only convertible luggage rack for sale globally tested to this standard/level. See Revo-Rack testing.
With the Revo-Rack car boot rack no metal touches your MX5's boot lid only soft rubber vacuum cups these use the pressure of the atmosphere to secure the rack to your Mazda's boot or trunk.

The Rack Frame :
The Revo-Rack luggage rack is manufactured from 25mm/ 1" 6063-T5 tubing this is an aluminium and magnesium alloy ( it will never rust ) As a result the rack frame weighs only 1.672kg / 3.6lb The cross bars are machine welded in place to ensure consistency, the rack is powder coated black. The rack measures 900x420mm / 36"x17"
The Supports :
The rack is secured to your RF's lid using three 120mm/5" vacuum cups, rated by the manufacturer as capable of holding an 18kg/40lb load each.
Vacuum cups employ the force of atmospheric pressure to grip a surface: When a vacuum exists between the cup and the surface on which it is attached, the weight of Earth's atmosphere holds the cup in place with incredible force. Unlike suction cups that produce a vacuum as they pull away from the surface, Revo-Racks vacuum cups use a hand-actuated pump to efficiently remove air from between the rubber pad and the attaching surface thus creating a much more reliable hold. Because the full face of the pad is brought into contact with the surface, any load is spread over a wide area, not a point load like a traditional luggage rack clamp.
The Revo-Racks vacuum cup's pump feature a plunger with a red line, which serves as a vacuum indicator. A few strokes of the plunger evacuate the air in the vacuum pad, causing it to seal securely to the boot lid. When the cup is attached completely, the plunger stops moving and the red line is hidden within the pump. A visible red line indicates if air has leaked back into the pad, making vacuum insufficient to use the cup. If the red line becomes visible while the cup is in use, a check valve allow you to re pump the cup without losing the remaining vacuum.
Lifting on the release tab near the edge of the pad allows air to refill the evacuated space, so that the vacuum cup detaches completely. The racks sits 7.5cm / 3" off the boot lid.
